Destination guide

Argentina is one of the great South American trips for UK travellers: tango and steak in Buenos Aires, the glaciers and trekking of Patagonia, the wine country around Mendoza, and the spectacular Iguazu Falls on the Brazilian border. It is a country with mostly excellent infrastructure, but the right travel vaccines still matter, particularly if your itinerary includes the subtropical north.

NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid for most travellers to Argentina, with Hepatitis B for longer stays or anyone likely to need medical or dental care. Yellow Fever is recommended specifically for travel to Iguazu Falls and the northeastern provinces of Misiones and Corrientes, and is increasingly required by neighbouring countries if you arrive overland from those areas.

Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We can usually fit you in same week, vaccinate, and sign your Yellow Fever ICVP in a single appointment.

Travel vaccines for Argentina at a glance

Argentina is generally a lower risk South American destination, but Yellow Fever becomes important if you are heading to Iguazu Falls or the northeast. NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid for most travellers, with Hepatitis B for longer stays. Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre and can vaccinate and certify in a single appointment.

Yellow Fever for Iguazu and the northeast

Yellow Fever vaccination is recommended for travel to Iguazu Falls and the provinces of Misiones and Corrientes. It is not required for entry into Argentina itself, but increasingly required by neighbouring Brazil and Paraguay if you cross overland from a YF area. A single dose gives lifelong protection. Aqua will sign and stamp your ICVP certificate at the consultation.

Hepatitis A and Typhoid

Both are standard for Argentina travel and can be given together as Viatim (one injection) or separately. Hep A protects for around 12 months from a single dose (25 years with a booster); Typhoid protects for around 3 years. Important if you plan to eat street food, drink anything outside major hotels, or travel to smaller towns.

Hepatitis B

Recommended for longer trips (over four weeks), backpackers, anyone likely to need medical or dental care, and travellers planning adventure activities. Available as a standalone three dose course, or combined with Hep A as Twinrix.

Buenos Aires, Patagonia and Mendoza

Most of Argentina south of Buenos Aires is low risk for tropical disease, but Patagonia has a significant tick borne illness risk in summer. We will give you a written briefing on tick avoidance, what to do if bitten, and altitude advice if you are heading to the high Andes or the wine country around Mendoza.
