Most travellers only need routine UK boosters up to date. TBE is recommended if you are hiking or camping in forested areas from spring to autumn.

What is tick borne encephalitis?

A viral infection spread by tick bites in European forests. Most cases are mild but it can cause serious neurological illness. The vaccine is highly effective.

How soon should I come in?

Ideally 4 to 6 weeks before departure for the full TBE course, but accelerated schedules and last minute boosters are available.

TBE can be given from age 1. Tetanus boosters follow the standard childhood schedule. Bring children with you to the consultation.

Croatia is a low risk European destination for most travellers. The main consideration is tick borne encephalitis if you are visiting Plitvice, Krka or other forested areas in spring or summer. Routine tetanus, diphtheria and polio boosters are sensible if overdue, and Hepatitis A is worth considering for longer stays.
