Do I really need vaccines for Spain?

Spain is a low risk EU country, so you do not need exotic vaccines. The honest baseline is a Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio booster if it has been more than 10 years, plus Hepatitis A if you want one off long term cover for European and Mediterranean travel.

Is Hepatitis A really worth it for Spain?

For a single short holiday, you can reasonably skip it. For frequent travellers, families with kids, or anyone who eats widely from tapas bars and seafood markets, it is a sensible single jab covering you for around 25 years with the booster.

What about ticks and other outdoor risks?

Tick borne disease risk in Spain is low overall but present in northern and mountainous areas. For Camino walkers and hikers in the Picos or Pyrenees, we cover bite avoidance, but routine TBE vaccination is not recommended.

How soon before my trip should I come in?

Even a few days before is fine for Spain, since you are mostly topping up routine vaccines. Two to four weeks is ideal if you also want Hepatitis A to take effect before departure.

Madrid, Barcelona and the Costas carry no special vaccine risks beyond food and water sense and good sun protection. Andalucia and the islands can be very hot in summer, so heat illness, hydration and sun safety matter as much as vaccines. Walkers tackling the Camino de Santiago or Picos de Europa should think about foot care and tick awareness in the north.
