France is the UK's closest and most visited foreign destination, from Paris city breaks and Provence summers to ski weeks in the French Alps, walking in the Pyrenees, beach holidays on the Atlantic coast and food tours in Alsace, Burgundy and Bordeaux. It is a low risk EU country for travel health, but a sensible vaccine plan still adds peace of mind.
For most travellers, the focus is on routine cover, especially a Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio booster (Revaxis) if you have not had one in the last 10 years, and Hepatitis A for repeat European travellers. Where France differs from southern Europe is tick borne encephalitis (TBE): the Alsace and eastern French regions have a documented low to moderate TBE risk, so we will discuss the vaccine if you are camping, hiking or working outdoors in those areas during the warmer months.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC aligned travel clinic operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We can usually fit you in same week and handle your France travel vaccines in a single 15 minute appointment.

Travel vaccines for France at a glance
France is a low risk EU country. NaTHNaC recommends keeping routine NHS vaccines up to date, with a Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio booster (Revaxis) every 10 years, and considers Hepatitis A as a sensible add on for repeat travellers. Tick borne encephalitis is a focal low to moderate risk in Alsace and eastern France for outdoor travellers in summer.
Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio
The NHS schedule covers you to early adulthood, but boosters wane after 10 years. A single Revaxis injection tops up all three for another decade and is the baseline recommendation for any European trip, including France.
Hepatitis A for France
Hepatitis A is rare in France, but the vaccine is a sensible one off jab for anyone who travels widely in Europe and beyond. A single dose gives around 12 months protection, with a booster at 6 to 12 months extending cover to about 25 years.
Tick borne encephalitis in Alsace and eastern France
TBE is a viral infection spread by tick bites, with a documented focus in Alsace, the Vosges and parts of eastern France. The risk is small but real for walkers, campers and outdoor workers between April and November. The vaccine is given as two doses 1 to 3 months apart, with a third dose for longer term cover. We will assess your itinerary and recommend it only if it is genuinely useful for you.
