The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean package destination - Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Samana and Santo Domingo. Vaccine needs are modest; malaria is present at low levels in specific rural areas.
NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid for most travellers to Dominican Republic, with Cholera, Rabies and Tuberculosis recommended for some travellers depending on itinerary. You do not need Yellow Fever if travelling directly from the UK; a certificate is only relevant for travellers transiting via a YF-risk country in the six days before arrival.

Yellow Fever certificate (only if transiting via YF risk country)
Only applies if you have been in a YF risk country in the last 6 days. UK-direct travellers do not need this. Aqua is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever centre and issues the ICVP in-clinic.
Tetanus / Diphtheria / Polio (Td/IPV) booster
A 10-year booster is standard for travel and takes 60 seconds in the same appointment.
Malaria prescription + bite avoidance
Risk varies by region. The pharmacist checks your itinerary against NaTHNaC and prescribes atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline or mefloquine where appropriate. DEET and clothing advice included.

Hepatitis A and Typhoid
Standard for all Dominican Republic travel. Available as Viatim (combined, one injection) or as separate vaccines. Hepatitis A protects for around 12 months from one dose and around 25 years with a booster. Typhoid protects for around 3 years.
Rabies
NaTHNaC recommends pre-exposure rabies vaccination for some travellers to Dominican Republic - particularly rural trips, longer stays, backpackers, cyclists, children, VFR travellers and anyone likely to have close animal contact. At Aqua we use the three-dose pre-exposure schedule on days 0, 7 and 21-28 (UK Green Book standard). Pharmacies cannot administer post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) - if you are bitten or scratched abroad, wash the wound thoroughly and go straight to A&E, NHS 111 or a local hospital for post-exposure treatment.
Cholera (Dukoral)
An oral two-dose vaccine considered for prolonged rural, humanitarian or outbreak-area travel. It also provides useful cover against some travellers' diarrhoea.
Tuberculosis (BCG)
Considered for long-stay work in healthcare, community immersion and family travel with young children in higher-risk regions of Dominican Republic. Reviewed at consultation.
Malaria
Malaria risk varies by region in Dominican Republic. We check your itinerary against NaTHNaC and either prescribe atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline or mefloquine for higher-risk areas, or confirm you do not need cover. Bite avoidance advice (DEET, long sleeves at dawn and dusk) is included.
Yellow Fever certificate — for travellers transiting via a YF risk country only
If you are travelling directly from the UK to Dominican Republic, this does not apply to you. Dominican Republic does not have Yellow Fever transmission and does not require the vaccine for UK-based travellers on a direct route.
The certificate only becomes relevant if you have been in a Yellow Fever risk country (most of sub-Saharan Africa or the Amazon basin) in the previous six days, including short transit stays. In that specific case, Dominican Republic requires an ICVP on arrival. Aqua is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre and can vaccinate + issue the ICVP in-clinic on the day.
