The Dominican Republic is one of the most popular Caribbean destinations from the UK, with Punta Cana for all inclusive resorts, Bayahibe and La Romana for diving and beaches, Santo Domingo for colonial city breaks, and Samana for whales and waterfalls. For most travellers heading to a beach resort, the travel health requirements are modest, but a few key vaccines are worth thinking about.
Yellow Fever is not a risk in the Dominican Republic, and malaria risk is very low (limited to some western rural areas, with Punta Cana and Bavaro essentially malaria free). NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid for most travellers, with Hepatitis B worth considering for longer stays, anyone who may need medical or dental care, or travellers who plan to get tattoos or piercings while away.
A check on routine UK vaccines (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, MMR) is also sensible. Dengue is present in the Dominican Republic, so the pharmacist will give written advice on mosquito bite avoidance.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). Most Dominican Republic travellers are fully sorted in a single 15 minute appointment.
