Germany splits neatly in two from a travel medicine point of view. Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and the northern cities are low risk and mostly need routine UK cover. Southern Germany, in particular Bavaria, Baden-Wurttemberg (including the Black Forest), Saxony and Thuringia, is a Tick-borne Encephalitis (TBE) risk area, where the Robert Koch Institute publishes an updated risk map each year.
NaTHNaC and the UKHSA Green Book recommend TBE for anyone walking, hiking, camping or working outdoors in southern Germany from spring through autumn. Hepatitis A is sensible for any independent travel and festival or food-based trips, and routine Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio cover should be checked for every adult traveller.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is operated by Aqua Pharmacy, a GPhC registered premises (1123406) owned by Naspram Pharma Limited, under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We routinely stock TBE vaccine and can usually fit a Germany traveller in same week, deliver the first TBE dose, give Hep A and routine boosters, and write a clear schedule for any follow-up doses.

Travel vaccines for Germany at a glance
Berlin and northern Germany mostly need routine UK cover. Bavaria, Baden-Wurttemberg (Black Forest), Saxony, Thuringia and other southern regions are Tick-borne Encephalitis (TBE) risk areas, with the Robert Koch Institute updating the risk map each year.
Tick-borne Encephalitis (TBE) in southern Germany
The TBE vaccine is a two dose pre-travel course, with a third dose to complete protection. Recommended for hikers, campers, mountain bikers and outdoor workers in Bavaria, the Black Forest and other RKI risk districts from spring through autumn.
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A is sensible for any independent travel, festival travel and food and drink heavy trips. A single dose gives around 12 months of protection, 25 years with a booster.
Routine cover
Check that your Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio booster is up to date. UK guidance is one booster every 10 years and many adults are overdue.
Onward and neighbouring travel
Many travellers combine Germany with Austria, Switzerland, Czechia or Poland, all of which carry TBE risk. The pharmacist will plan the whole trip in one go.
