Destination guide

Mauritius is the easiest of the Indian Ocean destinations to plan for. Most UK travellers fly direct from Heathrow or Gatwick for a week or two at an all-inclusive resort on the north and west coasts, with day trips to Port Louis, Black River Gorges and Chamarel. Honeymoons and family beach holidays dominate.

From a travel-health point of view, Mauritius is one of the lower-risk tropical destinations. There is no malaria, no Yellow Fever requirement from the UK, and tap water is generally safe in resorts. Hepatitis A is recommended for all travellers as a sensible food and water precaution. Hepatitis B is sensible if you are planning watersports, longer stays or any chance of medical exposure.

Yellow Fever is required for entry if you are arriving from a YF risk country, which catches travellers combining Mauritius with Kenya, Tanzania or other African safari legs.

Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC-registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). Most Mauritius travellers are sorted in a single 15 minute appointment.

Travel vaccines for Mauritius, at a glance

Mauritius is one of the simpler tropical destinations to plan for. NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A for most travellers and Hepatitis B for longer stays or activity-heavy itineraries. There is no malaria. Yellow Fever is only required if you are arriving from a YF risk country.

Hep A and Hep B

Hepatitis A is a sensible food and water precaution. One dose covers you for around 12 months (25 years with a booster). Hep B is recommended for stays over a month, any healthcare exposure or planned tattoos and piercings.

No malaria, no Yellow Fever

Mauritius is malaria free. Yellow Fever is only required if you are arriving from a YF risk country (most of sub-Saharan Africa or tropical South America); direct from the UK no certificate is needed.
