Mozambique is the long string of Indian Ocean coast that runs from the South African border up to Tanzania: the Bazaruto Archipelago for high-end island lodges and snorkelling, Tofo for budget surf and whale-shark trips, and Pemba and the Quirimbas for diving and seriously remote beach travel. Most UK travellers fly via Johannesburg or Addis Ababa.
From a travel-health point of view, Mozambique is one of the higher-risk African destinations. Hepatitis A and Typhoid are standard for everyone. Rabies is strongly recommended for longer trips, rural travel and anywhere you might be more than 24 hours from medical care, which covers most of the northern coast. Malaria is a year-round risk across the whole country, including the islands, so you will need a prescription antimalarial.
Yellow Fever is required for entry if you are arriving from a YF risk country, so combined trips from Kenya, Tanzania or Uganda need an ICVP. Cholera is worth considering if you are doing budget travel, working in healthcare or aid, or staying for longer than a couple of weeks.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC-registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We can usually fit you in same-week and handle the whole pack (vaccines, malaria prescription, ICVP) in a single 15 minute appointment.
