New Zealand is one of the lowest risk long haul destinations for UK travellers. Whether you are heading to Auckland and the Bay of Islands, hiking the Milford Track, exploring Queenstown, or visiting family for several months, there are no exotic vaccines required by NaTHNaC for routine travel.
The main thing to check before you fly is that your routine UK vaccines are up to date, in particular Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio. A single combined booster covers all three and is recommended before any long trip with outdoor activities, hiking, working holidays or farm stays. Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) cover is also worth confirming if you were not vaccinated as a child.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC aligned, GPhC registered pharmacy. We can review your itinerary, top up your Tetanus booster, talk through altitude, sun and outdoor safety, and write you a short practical checklist in a single 15 minute appointment. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC premises 1123406, Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157).

Travel vaccines for New Zealand, at a glance
New Zealand is one of the lowest risk destinations for UK travellers. NaTHNaC does not recommend any exotic travel vaccines for routine trips. The focus is on making sure your routine UK vaccines, especially Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio, are up to date.
Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio
The main useful top up for almost any New Zealand traveller. A single combined booster lasts around 10 years and is sensible before any long trip with hiking, working holiday or farm stay components. Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio at Aqua Travel Clinic is one short injection.
Other risks to be aware of
Malaria, Yellow Fever, Japanese Encephalitis, Typhoid and Rabies are not required for New Zealand. Sun exposure can be intense due to the thinner ozone layer over the Southern Hemisphere; a high factor sunscreen, hat and sunglasses are essential. Altitude only becomes relevant on certain Southern Alps treks and ski resorts. Outdoor injuries (cuts, scrapes, falls) are the most likely day to day risk, which is why a current tetanus booster matters.
