Rwanda is the headline gorilla trekking destination in East Africa, with Volcanoes National Park in the northwest and Nyungwe Forest in the southwest drawing thousands of UK travellers every year. Kigali is also a busy hub for business, NGO work and overland safari connections into Uganda and Tanzania. Yellow Fever vaccination is required by Rwanda for all travellers aged 1 year and over, and the ICVP certificate is checked on arrival at Kigali airport.
Alongside Yellow Fever, NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Rabies for most Rwanda itineraries, with Cholera considered for higher risk rural travel. Malaria is present year round in most areas below 2,500m, so a pharmacist issued antimalarial prescription is part of almost every Rwanda travel pack.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). Most travellers get vaccinated, certified and prescribed in a single 15 minute appointment.

Travel vaccines for Rwanda at a glance
Rwanda requires Yellow Fever vaccination for all travellers aged 1 year and over, and the ICVP certificate is checked at Kigali airport. NaTHNaC also recommends Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Rabies for most travellers, with malaria prophylaxis for almost all itineraries below 2,500m. Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre and can vaccinate and certify in a single appointment.
Yellow Fever for Rwanda
Yellow Fever vaccination is mandatory for entry to Rwanda for travellers aged 1 year and older. A single dose gives lifelong protection per WHO and UKHSA Green Book guidance. Your ICVP certificate is valid 10 days after the injection, so plan ahead. Aqua signs and stamps the certificate at the consultation.
Gorilla trekking and Rabies
Rabies is strongly recommended for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe Forest. Although mountain gorillas are not the main rabies risk, forest stays put you a long way from post exposure treatment, and stray dogs are common in rural Rwanda. Two doses on days 0 and 7 give solid pre exposure cover.
Hepatitis A and Typhoid
Both are standard for Rwanda travel and can be given together as Viatim (one injection) or separately. Hep A protects for around 12 months from a single dose (25 years with a booster); Typhoid protects for around 3 years.
Malaria in Rwanda
Malaria is present year round in most of Rwanda below 2,500m, including the lowland approaches to Volcanoes National Park and most of Nyungwe. Kigali itself is lower risk but not zero. The pharmacist prescribes the right antimalarial based on your itinerary and medical history, plus written advice on bite avoidance for evening forest activity.
