What is the Yellow Fever vaccine?
Yellow Fever is a viral haemorrhagic illness spread by Aedes and Haemagogus mosquitoes in 40+ countries across sub-Saharan Africa and tropical South America. There is no cure (treatment is supportive only), so a single, well-timed dose of the live attenuated vaccine is the single most important step before you travel.
Many destinations (Brazil, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Peru, Bolivia, and others) either require or strongly recommend Yellow Fever vaccination, and some will refuse entry without a valid International Certificate of Vaccination (ICVP), a yellow card that only a designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre can issue.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is one of those NaTHNaC-designated centres. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC-registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under the clinical governance of Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We vaccinate, sign the certificate at the consultation, and, unlike most NHS practices, can usually fit you in same-week or even same-day.

Yellow Fever vaccine in West Hampstead - at a glance
Yellow Fever is a mosquito-borne viral haemorrhagic illness with no cure. A single dose of the live attenuated vaccine (Stamaril®) provides lifelong protection for most healthy adults and is required for entry to many countries in sub-Saharan Africa and tropical South America. Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. We can vaccinate and sign your International Certificate of Vaccination (ICVP) in one appointment.
Who needs the Yellow Fever vaccine?
You should consider Yellow Fever vaccination if you are travelling to a country where Yellow Fever is endemic or where proof of vaccination is required for entry. Common destinations include Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador. Many countries (including India, Thailand and most of Asia) will refuse entry without an ICVP if you have travelled through a Yellow Fever risk country in the previous six days, even on a stopover.
How the appointment works at Aqua
You book online or by phone, then come to the clinic at 59 Mill Lane, West Hampstead (one minute from West Hampstead station). The pharmacist takes a short travel history, confirms you are eligible (the live vaccine is contraindicated for some patients), administers the vaccine in your upper arm, and signs and stamps your yellow ICVP certificate before you leave. Total appointment time is around 15 minutes.
Side effects and contraindications
Most people experience only mild side effects: a sore arm, mild headache or low-grade fever for a day or two. Serious reactions are rare. The vaccine is not suitable for infants under 9 months, people with a true egg allergy, those who are immunosuppressed, or pregnant women in most circumstances. The pharmacist will discuss this with you and can issue an exemption letter if appropriate.
How long does protection last?
WHO guidance (2016 onwards) confirms that a single dose provides lifelong protection for most travellers. A booster is not normally required. The ICVP is valid for life, except for a small number of countries that still require a booster after 10 years; we will tell you which apply to your trip.
