Uganda is one of Africa's most rewarding destinations: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale, the source of the Nile at Jinja, and Big Five safari at Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is also a country with a strict mandatory Yellow Fever vaccination requirement: every traveller over 1 year of age must show a valid Yellow Fever ICVP certificate on arrival, regardless of where they are travelling from. No certificate means no entry.
NaTHNaC also recommends Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Rabies for almost all travellers, with Meningitis ACWY for travel during the dry season (December to June) and Cholera considered for high-risk rural travel. Malaria is a year-round risk across the country below 2,500m, so antimalarials are essential for almost all itineraries.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC-registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We can usually fit you in same-week, vaccinate, write your malaria prescription, and sign your Yellow Fever ICVP in a single appointment.

Yellow Fever, mandatory for Uganda
Uganda requires every traveller over 1 year of age to show a valid Yellow Fever ICVP certificate on arrival, regardless of the country they are arriving from. This is not a recommendation, it is an entry requirement enforced at Entebbe airport and land borders. A single dose gives lifelong protection. Aqua will sign and stamp your ICVP certificate at the consultation. The certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination, so plan accordingly.
Hepatitis A and Typhoid
Both are standard for Uganda and can be given together as Viatim (one injection) or separately. Hep A protects for around 12 months from a single dose (25 years with a booster); Typhoid protects for around 3 years.
Rabies, especially for gorilla trekking
Rabies is endemic across Uganda. Pre-exposure vaccination (two doses, days 0 and 7) is recommended for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking (primates can transmit rabies), safari, rural travel and anyone planning to be more than 24 hours from medical care. Strongly recommended for children.
Meningitis ACWY
Uganda lies on the edge of the African meningitis belt. The Meningitis ACWY vaccine is recommended for travel during the dry season (December to June), especially for longer trips or those involving close contact with local people.
Malaria, year-round risk
Malaria is present across Uganda year-round below 2,500m, including all the main safari and trekking areas. The pharmacist will prescribe atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline or mefloquine based on your itinerary, plus written advice on bite avoidance.
