What is ViATIM and why combine Hep A and Typhoid?
ViATIM® is a single-injection combined vaccine that protects against both Hepatitis A (a viral liver infection spread through contaminated food and water) and Typhoid (a bacterial gut infection spread the same way). These are the two most common travel vaccines for trips to South Asia, the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, so getting them together makes practical sense.
The maths is straightforward: one ViATIM injection replaces one Hep A plus one Typhoid injection (two needles becomes one). The standalone Hepatitis A and Typhoid options remain available if you only need one or the other.
ViATIM gives Typhoid cover for about 3 years and Hep A cover for about 12 months from the first dose. A Hep A booster 6 to 12 months later (using either a second ViATIM or a standalone Hep A) extends Hep A cover to around 25 years.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead, operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC-registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157), offers ViATIM as a same-day appointment.

ViATIM® in West Hampstead at a glance
ViATIM is a combined Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccine given as a single intramuscular injection. Hep A and Typhoid are the two most-recommended travel vaccines for UK travellers heading to South Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. Combining them into one needle saves time and means fewer injections at the appointment.
Who is ViATIM for?
NaTHNaC recommends Hep A for almost every destination outside Western Europe, North America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, and Typhoid for travel to South Asia (especially India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal), sub-Saharan Africa, parts of Latin America, the Middle East and South-East Asia. If you need both (most travellers heading to these regions do), ViATIM is usually the right choice. If you only need Hep A, the standalone Hepatitis A vaccine is more cost-effective. If you only need Typhoid, the standalone Typhoid vaccine is the right product.
How protection works
A single ViATIM dose gives Typhoid cover for about 3 years and Hep A cover for around 12 months. A Hep A booster 6 to 12 months later (either a second ViATIM or a standalone Hep A injection) extends Hep A cover to around 25 years. If you travel again within 3 years, your Typhoid cover is still active and you only need a Hep A top-up. After 3 years, you need a Typhoid booster.
How the appointment works at Aqua
Book online and come to 59 Mill Lane, West Hampstead. The pharmacist takes a short travel history, confirms there are no contraindications, and administers ViATIM in your upper arm. Total appointment time is around 15 minutes. If you are travelling soon, even a single dose given a few days before departure gives meaningful protection against both diseases.
Why combine instead of separate?
One needle instead of two, and one less thing to remember about your trip. The cross-reference to standalone Hep A and Typhoid pages explains the standalone options for travellers who only need one of the two.
Side effects and contraindications
Most people experience only mild side effects: sore arm, low-grade fever, mild headache or fatigue for 24 to 48 hours. ViATIM is inactivated (not live), so it is safe in pregnancy and for immunosuppressed travellers when clinically indicated. The pharmacist will check your suitability at the appointment.
Combined with other vaccines
ViATIM can be given in the same appointment as Td/IPV, Hep B, Yellow Fever, Rabies, Meningitis ACWY and Cholera. For travellers heading to South Asia, the most common combination is ViATIM plus Td/IPV plus any destination-specific extras.
