Afghanistan is one of the most challenging destinations in the world: Kabul, the historic city of Herat, the Bamiyan Valley, and a complex security and political environment. The FCDO advises against all travel to Afghanistan and consular support is severely limited. Always check current FCDO advice and confirm travel insurance specifically covers Afghanistan before booking.
For those travelling with appropriate clearance (aid workers, journalists, diplomatic staff, diaspora visiting family), Afghanistan is one of only two countries (with Pakistan) where wild poliovirus continues to circulate. A polio booster is required for adults whose last dose was more than 10 years ago, and many countries require a polio vaccination certificate for travellers leaving Afghanistan.
Beyond polio, NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Hepatitis B and Rabies for most travellers. Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead can provide all the above. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). Please check current FCDO travel advice before booking.

NaTHNaC also recommends Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Hepatitis B and Rabies for most travellers. Please check current FCDO travel advice before booking.
FCDO travel advice
The FCDO advises against all travel to Afghanistan. Consular support is severely limited and travel insurance may not cover trips. Check gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/afghanistan and confirm your insurance before booking.
Polio (essential)
Afghanistan is one of only two endemic countries for wild poliovirus, alongside Pakistan. Adults whose last polio dose was more than 10 years ago need a booster (IPV). Some countries require a polio vaccination certificate for travellers leaving Afghanistan; we can provide a written record.
Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Hepatitis B
All three are standard for Afghanistan travel. Hep A and Typhoid can be given together as Viatim. Hepatitis B is particularly important given limited access to screened blood products and medical care; rapid schedule available for short notice trips.
Rabies
Strongly recommended given very limited access to post exposure prophylaxis in Afghanistan. Two doses on days 0 and 7.
