Bangladesh is a major VFR destination from London, particularly for the Bengali community in Camden and northeast London. Travel typically covers Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong, tea gardens and family homes in rural districts, which shifts the vaccine plan compared with a hotel-only itinerary.
NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid for most travellers to Bangladesh, with Cholera, Hepatitis B, Japanese encephalitis, Rabies and Tuberculosis recommended for some travellers depending on itinerary. A Polio certificate can be required for stays over four weeks in a polio-transmission area.

Hepatitis A + Typhoid
Standard for food/water hygiene. Available as separate vaccines or combined Viatim in one injection. Hep A covers 12 months from one dose (25 years with booster); Typhoid protects around 3 years.
Rabies (where indicated)
Recommended for rural stays, long trips, cyclists, backpackers, children, VFR travel and anyone likely to have close animal contact. Three-dose pre-exposure schedule on days 0, 7 and 21-28 (UK Green Book). Pharmacies cannot administer post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) - if bitten or scratched abroad, wash the wound thoroughly and go straight to A&E, NHS 111 or a local hospital.
Tetanus / Diphtheria / Polio (Td/IPV) booster
A 10-year booster is standard for travel. Also covers the Polio certificate requirement where relevant.
Malaria prescription + bite avoidance
Risk varies by region. The pharmacist checks your itinerary against NaTHNaC and prescribes atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline or mefloquine where appropriate. DEET and clothing advice included.

Standard for all Bangladesh travel. Available as Viatim (combined, one injection) or as separate vaccines. Hepatitis A protects for around 12 months from one dose and around 25 years with a booster. Typhoid protects for around 3 years.
Rabies
NaTHNaC recommends pre-exposure rabies vaccination for some travellers to Bangladesh - particularly rural trips, longer stays, backpackers, cyclists, children, VFR travellers and anyone likely to have close animal contact. Japanese Encephalitis
Considered for rural rice-paddy areas of Bangladesh during transmission season, longer stays and adventure travel. Two-dose course on days 0 and 28 - we can accelerate for last-minute departures where clinically appropriate.
Hepatitis B
Three-dose course (0, 1, 6 months) recommended for longer stays, medical or dental procedures, tattoos, piercings and new sexual partners abroad. An accelerated schedule is available for shorter lead times.
Cholera (Dukoral)
An oral two-dose vaccine considered for prolonged rural, humanitarian or outbreak-area travel. It also provides useful cover against some travellers' diarrhoea.
Tuberculosis (BCG)
Considered for long-stay work in healthcare, community immersion and family travel with young children in higher-risk regions of Bangladesh. Reviewed at consultation.
Malaria
Malaria risk varies by region in Bangladesh. We check your itinerary against NaTHNaC and either prescribe atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline or mefloquine for higher-risk areas, or confirm you do not need cover. Bite avoidance advice (DEET, long sleeves at dawn and dusk) is included.
