Myanmar (Burma) rewards travellers with the temple plain of Bagan, the stilt villages and floating gardens of Inle Lake, the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, and the colonial hill stations around Pyin Oo Lwin. It is also a country where medical infrastructure is uneven outside the main cities, so getting your travel vaccines and malaria plan sorted before you fly matters.
NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies for most Myanmar itineraries, with Cholera (Dukoral) considered for high risk rural travel. Malaria is present in rural and border areas below 1,000m, and the pharmacist will recommend the right antimalarial for your route.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We can usually fit you in same week, vaccinate, and dispense your malaria prescription in a single appointment. Please also check current FCDO travel advice before booking, as parts of Myanmar remain affected by conflict.

Travel vaccines for Myanmar at a glance
Myanmar is not a Yellow Fever risk country, but a YF certificate is required if you are arriving from a YF risk country. NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies for most travellers. Malaria is present in rural and border areas below 1,000m.
Hepatitis A and Typhoid
Both are standard for Myanmar travel and can be given together as Viatim (one injection) or separately. Hep A protects for around 12 months from a single dose (25 years with a booster); Typhoid protects for around 3 years. Important for anyone eating at street stalls in Yangon, Mandalay or Bagan night markets.
Japanese Encephalitis
JE is a mosquito borne viral infection found across rural Myanmar, particularly around rice paddies, Inle Lake and the Irrawaddy delta. NaTHNaC recommends it for rural itineraries, stays of a month or more, and travellers visiting Inle Lake, Bagan countryside or the delta region. Two doses are needed (days 0 and 28, or accelerated days 0 and 7 in adults under 65).
Rabies
Recommended for almost all Myanmar itineraries. Stray dogs are common in Yangon and across rural areas, and rabies post exposure treatment (human rabies immunoglobulin) is very difficult to source. Pre exposure vaccination converts an emergency into a routine two dose top up. Two doses on days 0 and 7.
Malaria
Risk is present in rural and forested border areas below 1,000m, particularly Kachin, Shan, Rakhine and the Thai and Bangladesh borders. Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan are low risk. The pharmacist will recommend atovaquone/proguanil or doxycycline depending on your route.
