Sri Lanka is a UK favourite for Colombo, the tea country, southern beaches, Yala safaris and cultural triangle (Sigiriya, Kandy, Polonnaruwa). Vaccine needs are moderate; Rabies is a real consideration because of stray-dog exposure.
NaTHNaC recommends Tetanus for most travellers to Sri Lanka, with Cholera, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Japanese encephalitis, Rabies, Tuberculosis and Typhoid recommended for some travellers depending on itinerary. A Yellow Fever ICVP is required if you have been in a Yellow Fever risk country in the previous six days. A Polio certificate can be required for stays over four weeks in a polio-transmission area.

A 10-year booster is standard and covers the Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio bases in one injection.
Yellow Fever ICVP (if arriving from a risk country)
An ICVP is required only if you have been in a Yellow Fever risk country in the previous six days. We can vaccinate and issue the certificate in-clinic - Aqua is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever centre.
Rabies (where indicated)
Three-dose pre-exposure schedule (days 0, 7, 21-28). Pharmacies cannot administer post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
Cholera (Dukoral) - where indicated

The 10-year Td/IPV booster is the main vaccine consideration for Sri Lanka. It keeps your Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio cover current in one injection - it can be added to any Aqua consultation.
Rabies
NaTHNaC recommends pre-exposure rabies vaccination for some travellers to Sri Lanka - particularly rural trips, longer stays, backpackers, cyclists, children, VFR travellers and anyone likely to have close animal contact. At Aqua we use the three-dose pre-exposure schedule on days 0, 7 and 21-28 (UK Green Book standard). Pharmacies cannot administer post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) - if you are bitten or scratched abroad, wash the wound thoroughly and go straight to A&E, NHS 111 or a local hospital for post-exposure treatment.
Yellow Fever certificate (arrivals from risk countries)
Sri Lanka does not have Yellow Fever transmission, but requires an ICVP on arrival if you have been in a Yellow Fever risk country in the previous six days (including short transit stays). Aqua is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre and issues the ICVP in-clinic on the day.
Japanese Encephalitis
Considered for rural rice-paddy areas of Sri Lanka during transmission season, longer stays and adventure travel. Two-dose course on days 0 and 28 - we can accelerate for last-minute departures where clinically appropriate.
Hepatitis B
Three-dose course (0, 1, 6 months) recommended for longer stays, medical or dental procedures, tattoos, piercings and new sexual partners abroad. An accelerated schedule is available for shorter lead times.
Cholera (Dukoral)
An oral two-dose vaccine considered for prolonged rural, humanitarian or outbreak-area travel. It also provides useful cover against some travellers' diarrhoea.
Tuberculosis (BCG)
Considered for long-stay work in healthcare, community immersion and family travel with young children in higher-risk regions of Sri Lanka. Reviewed at consultation.
