Colombia is having its moment with UK travellers: colonial Cartagena on the Caribbean coast, the lush coffee region around Salento, salsa in Cali, and Amazon trips out of Leticia. It is a country where the right vaccines matter, because Colombia sits in the Yellow Fever zone and has active malaria transmission in lowland regions.
NaTHNaC recommends Yellow Fever for most travellers to Colombia, along with Hepatitis A and Typhoid for the food and water risks, and Rabies for longer trips or rural travel. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for the Amazon region, the Pacific coast and parts of the Caribbean lowlands.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We can usually fit you in same week, vaccinate, write your malaria prescription, and sign your Yellow Fever ICVP in a single appointment.

Travel vaccines for Colombia at a glance
Colombia is in the Yellow Fever zone. NaTHNaC recommends Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A and Typhoid for most travellers, with Rabies for longer or rural trips, and malaria prophylaxis for Amazon, Pacific coast and Caribbean lowland travel. Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre and can vaccinate and certify in a single appointment.
Yellow Fever for Colombia
Yellow Fever is recommended for most of Colombia, including the Amazon, the Pacific coast, the Llanos and most rural and forested areas. It is not generally required for entry but is strongly recommended for almost all itineraries except short urban visits to Bogota or the Caribbean coast cities. A single dose gives lifelong protection. Aqua will sign and stamp your ICVP certificate at the consultation, which neighbouring Peru, Ecuador and Brazil may want to see if you cross overland.
Hepatitis A and Typhoid
Both are standard for Colombia travel and can be given together as Viatim (one injection) or separately. Hep A protects for around 12 months from a single dose (25 years with a booster); Typhoid protects for around 3 years. The risk is real in street food and outside major hotels.
Rabies
Recommended for the Amazon, jungle travel, longer trips, anyone planning trekking in remote areas, and anyone more than 24 hours from medical care. Two doses on days 0 and 7. Highly recommended for children, who are more likely to interact with animals.
Malaria and dengue
Malaria transmission occurs below 1,600m in the Amazon, the Pacific coast and parts of the Caribbean lowlands. The pharmacist will prescribe atovaquone/proguanil or doxycycline based on your itinerary. Dengue is widespread across the country including urban areas, and we will give you a written briefing on DEET, clothing and dawn/dusk avoidance.
Cartagena, the coffee region and the Amazon
Cartagena and the coffee region are generally lower risk for malaria but you still want Yellow Fever and the standard vaccines. Amazon travel out of Leticia is the highest risk part of any Colombia trip and needs the full pack including Rabies and malaria tablets.
