Ecuador packs an extraordinary amount into one trip: colonial Quito at 2,850m, the Avenue of Volcanoes, the Amazon basin around Coca and Tena, and the bucket-list Galapagos archipelago. The vaccine requirements vary sharply depending on whether you stay in the Andes, drop into the Amazon, or fly to the islands.
Yellow Fever is a must if you are visiting the Amazon basin or any provinces east of the Andes (Sucumbios, Orellana, Napo, Pastaza, Morona Santiago, Zamora Chinchipe). It is not required for Quito, Cuenca, the Galapagos, or short Andean itineraries. NaTHNaC also recommends Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Rabies for most travellers, with malaria prophylaxis for jungle trips below 1,500m.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. The clinic is operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC-registered premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We can usually fit you in same-week, vaccinate, prescribe, and sign your ICVP in a single appointment.

Travel vaccines for Ecuador, at a glance
Ecuador is a Yellow Fever risk country in the Amazon basin and eastern provinces. NaTHNaC recommends Yellow Fever for those areas, plus Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Rabies for most travellers. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for jungle trips below 1,500m. Quito, Cuenca and the Galapagos are low-risk for most travel-health concerns, but altitude in Quito (2,850m) deserves planning. Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is a NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre and can vaccinate, prescribe and certify in a single appointment.
Yellow Fever for the Amazon
Yellow Fever is recommended for travel to all areas east of the Andes below 2,300m: Sucumbios, Orellana, Napo, Pastaza, Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe. A single dose gives lifelong protection. Aqua signs and stamps your ICVP certificate at the consultation. Some onward destinations (Brazil, Bolivia, Peru) will also want to see the certificate at the border.
Hepatitis A and Typhoid
Both are standard for Ecuador and can be given together as Viatim (one injection) or separately. Hep A protects for around 12 months from a single dose, and 25 years with a booster. Typhoid protects for around 3 years.
Rabies
Recommended for Amazon trips, longer stays, rural travel, cyclists, and anyone more than 24 hours from medical care. Two doses on days 0 and 7. Highly recommended for children and anyone working with animals on the trip.
Malaria and altitude
Malaria is a low-to-moderate risk in the Amazon basin below 1,500m, particularly in the northern provinces. The pharmacist will prescribe atovaquone/proguanil or doxycycline based on your itinerary. Altitude in Quito (2,850m), Cotopaxi (5,897m) and beyond is the other big planning point: we will go through symptoms, pacing, and whether Diamox is worth considering.
Galapagos specifics
The Galapagos itself is low risk: no Yellow Fever, no malaria. Hep A and Typhoid still apply because you may transit Quito or Guayaquil. The bigger considerations are sun, sea sickness on cruises, and the strict biosecurity rules on the islands. We will cover all of this in the consultation.
