Iran is a country with one of the largest diaspora communities in northwest London. A significant Iranian community lives across Hampstead, Belsize Park, West Hampstead and Kilburn, and many of our travellers go back to visit family in Tehran, see the blue tile mosques and bazaars of Esfahan, or walk the gardens and tombs of Shiraz. We see business travellers, cultural tourists and dual nationals visiting relatives.
Before booking flights or vaccines, please check current FCDO travel advice before booking. FCDO advice on Iran has changed materially in recent years, and dual nationals in particular should review it carefully. We will not advise on the political or consular side of your trip, but we will make sure your travel vaccines are right for the destination.
NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid for all travellers, Hepatitis B for longer stays, expat work, family visits, healthcare contact, or anyone likely to need medical or dental treatment, and Rabies for long stays, rural travel and trips into the desert or mountains. Cholera is occasionally considered for high risk rural itineraries with poor sanitation.
Malaria risk in Iran is very low and limited to a few rural areas in the southeast, mainly Sistan and Baluchestan and parts of Hormozgan and Kerman provinces, between March and November. Most tourist itineraries (Tehran, Esfahan, Shiraz, Yazd, Kashan) carry no malaria risk. Yellow Fever is required only if you are arriving from a Yellow Fever risk country.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is operated by Aqua Pharmacy, a GPhC registered premises (1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) under Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157). We can usually fit you in the same week and run through a written checklist together.

Travel vaccines for Iran at a glance
Before you do anything else, check current FCDO travel advice before booking, particularly if you are a dual national. NaTHNaC recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid for all travellers, Hepatitis B for longer stays or healthcare contact, and Rabies for long stays and rural travel. Yellow Fever is required only if you are arriving from a YF risk country.
Hepatitis A and Typhoid
Standard for all Iran travel and reflect realistic food and water exposure in bazaars, family kitchens, road trip stops and rural restaurants. Hep A gives around 12 months of cover from a single dose (25 years with a booster). Typhoid gives around 3 years.
Hepatitis B
Recommended for longer trips, family visits, healthcare workers, expat moves and anyone likely to need dental or medical treatment while abroad.
Rabies
Recommended for long stays, rural travel, desert itineraries (Kavir, Lut) and mountain trips. Two doses on days 0 and 7. Particularly worth considering for children.
Malaria in Iran
Risk is very low and limited to rural southeast provinces (Sistan and Baluchestan, parts of Hormozgan and Kerman) from March to November. Tehran, Esfahan, Shiraz, Yazd and Kashan carry no malaria risk. We will assess your specific itinerary.
Yellow Fever and ICVP
Required only if you are arriving from a YF risk country. We can issue and certify the ICVP if you need it.
