Highgate's travel medicine pattern
Highgate, N6, sits at the top of the Northern Line with around 15,000 residents across the village, Highgate Hill and the wider N6 catchment. The demographic skews affluent, professional and intellectually engaged, with a strong tradition of international family travel. Highgate households tend to plan long-haul trips well in advance: East African safari, South American expeditions, multi-week India and South-East Asia itineraries, and gap-year travel for older teenagers heading to Australia, Vietnam, Peru or Tanzania.
Aqua Travel Clinic in West Hampstead is the closest NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever centre with same-week availability for most of N6. We are pharmacist-led, independent and equipped for family bookings of 3 to 5 travellers in a single consultation. Operated by Aqua Pharmacy (GPhC premises 1123406, owned by Naspram Pharma Limited) and supervised by Superintendent Pharmacist Sanjay Mukundkumar Patel (GPhC 2045157).

How a Highgate appointment works
Four steps from booking to certificates issued.
1. Book online
Pick a slot at /booking/. Allow 25 to 30 minutes for a family booking of 3 to 5 travellers.
2. Travel from Highgate
Northern Line from Highgate to Kentish Town, change to Thameslink for West Hampstead Thameslink, around 25 minutes door to door. Or Northern Line plus bus down Finchley Road. Or 20-minute drive via Archway Road and the A41.
3. 15 to 25 minute consultation
Sanjay or a colleague reviews each traveller's itinerary against NaTHNaC guidance, confirms required vaccines and administers them in the same appointment.
4. ICVP + records
Yellow Fever certificates signed in-clinic. Digital travel record emailed for each traveller.
Highgate's travel patterns
Highgate sits at the top of the Northern Line, between Hampstead Heath and Muswell Hill, with a tight village core around Highgate High Street and South Grove. The population is broadly affluent, intellectually engaged and family-oriented. Four travel patterns dominate among N6 residents.
1. Family safari to East Africa
Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and occasionally Botswana are the leading safari destinations for Highgate families. Yellow Fever is required for entry to Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, and the certificate must be issued at a NaTHNaC-designated centre such as Aqua. Hep A, Typhoid and Rabies are standard. Malaria prophylaxis is needed for most safari itineraries below 1,800m. See our Kenya and Tanzania pages.
2. South America expeditions
Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador. Yellow Fever is strongly recommended (and effectively required in much of Brazil and the Amazon basin). Hep A, Typhoid and Rabies are standard. Hep B for longer stays. We also discuss altitude planning for trips to Cusco, La Paz and the Sacred Valley. See our Brazil page.
3. Multi-generational South Asia travel
Extended family trips to India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. NaTHNaC recommends Hep A, Typhoid, Tetanus boosters and Rabies pre-exposure for most itineraries. Japanese Encephalitis is added for rural and monsoon-season travel. We handle multi-generational bookings (grandparents, parents, children) in one appointment.
4. Gap-year and adventure travel
Older teenagers from Highgate's secondary schools travel widely in their gap years. South-East Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia), Australasia and South America are common. Standard package is Hep A, Typhoid, Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis and Hep B, plus Yellow Fever for South American legs.
Why come to Aqua from Highgate
Aqua is the closest NaTHNaC-designated Yellow Fever centre to Highgate with same-week availability for most of N6. The Royal Free travel clinic is closer geographically but typically requires a GP referral and 3 to 6 week lead times. The big high-street chains tend to rotate pharmacists and run longer waits for Yellow Fever.
Aqua is independent. Sanjay sees every patient. We are NaTHNaC-aligned and will not recommend a vaccine your itinerary does not need. The travel consultation is free; you pay only for vaccines actually administered.
Getting from Highgate to Aqua
By Northern Line + Thameslink: Highgate to Kentish Town on the Northern Line (5 minutes), change to Thameslink southbound for West Hampstead Thameslink (8 minutes). About 25 minutes door to door. We are a 3-minute walk from the Thameslink station.
By Northern Line + bus: Highgate to Belsize Park (8 minutes), then any bus down Finchley Road (13, 113, 187) to Finchley Road and Frognal. Around 25 minutes total.
By car: 20 minutes via Archway Road and the A41 (Hendon Way). Free side-road parking on Mill Lane and adjacent streets after the morning controlled hours.
Same-week appointments and family bookings
For family bookings of 3 or more travellers, please book at least 5 to 7 days ahead so we can allocate a longer slot. Single-traveller and couple appointments are usually available within a few days. Yellow Fever certificates are issued in-clinic and valid for life under current WHO guidance.
